8 July 2008
Today, the Council of the European Union, at its Brussels meeting at the level of ministers of finance of the European Union member states (ECOFIN) determined the irrevocable conversion coefficient between the Euro and the Slovak koruna (conversion rate) at the 1 € = 30.1260 SKK level.
The Slovak Republic, in compliance with a preceding Council decision becomes, as of 1 January 2009, part of the Eurozone - already the 16th European Union member state using the Euro as their common currency. The conversion rate will become effective for conversions and changes of the koruna against euros from 1 January 2009. As of today, the conversion rate will serve for showing prices and other financial values dually until end of the year 2008. All real money changing transactions between the Slovak koruna and the Euro will, however, continue according to the market rate until end of the year 2008.
